How it works

The shortest setup to ringing bells.

No technical knowledge required — but if you have it, the Pi route is fun.

01

Install

Download the installer for macOS, Windows, or Linux. Or flash the Raspberry Pi image to an SD card. Either way, you're set up is quick.

02

Schedule

Build a weekly schedule from a calendar grid, or let the liturgical engine set up defaults for your tradition. Sound packs install in one click.

03

Walk away

The scheduler runs in the background, even with the UI closed. Bells ring on time after reboots, after power outages, and after a network drop.

For the installer who loves a Raspberry Pi.

Flash the headless image, plug it in, connect to its WiFi setup hotspot from your phone. LED status indicators, systemd auto-start, and OTA updates. Bring your own Pi 4 or 5 — we don't sell hardware.

How we compare

The category has been quiet. We've been listening.

Frequently asked

Honest answers.

No. The schedule lives on your device in a local database. Once installed and configured, the bells ring on time even with the cable unplugged or the WiFi down for days. The cloud is only used for optional Mobile Control and initial license checks.
Mobile Control is an optional add-on that lets you override your schedule remotely — mute for a funeral, add a memorial ring, peek at the week from your phone. It is the only subscription part of ChurchBells. The desktop app rings perfectly well without it.
A perpetual license for your first device. Each additional device on the same account is $20 one-time. The base license never expires; future versions of the desktop app are free updates.
It's a discount we offer to people who join the waitlist and buy at or near launch. The regular price after launch is $149 for the first device. Sound packs and Mobile Control pricing are unchanged.
Yes — that's one of the platforms we test against. We provide official Pi images (headless and desktop) with WiFi setup, LED status, and auto-start. A Pi 4 or 5 with 2GB+ RAM is plenty.
v1 ships with Roman Catholic, Anglican / Episcopal, Lutheran (ELCA and LCMS), Methodist, Baptist, Generic Protestant, and a Custom mode. If your tradition isn't listed, Custom mode lets you define feast days, fasting days, and seasons by hand.
No, but we will provide a refund for any reason within the first 30 days of purchase. Contact us at hello@churchbells.app.
WAV and MP3 in v1, but we're open to suggestions.
